What better time to work on a New Year’s Resolution than the last month of the year?  I could say I’m getting a jump on next year’s promises but in reality I’ve been meaning to get a blog started for several years.   Now that Iris is nearly four and our “extended stay” in Missouri is going on 14 months, I figured it was high time.   But it was a short drive back from an appointment a few days ago that really clinched it for me.  I try not to dwell on the reasons we are still in Missouri (which is not Alaska, as the blog name would suggest) but I let my mind wander with the meandering country roads and soon I could barely see through the tears.

It’s been almost two years since Iris and I lost her dad and a little over a year since we held mom in her dying moments as well.  It suddenly became clear that I had to record my thoughts and ideas not only to help retain certain memories but also as an outlet, a therapy of sorts.  And most importantly, to share with family and friends about what Iris and I are up to.

I envision writing about current events in our sphere but there are times when I might do some reflective entries on my time in Alaska and other places.  We’ll just see where this takes us…
